The Schooner Bill of Rights has called Chula Vista, CA home for decades and is the official tall ship of the city. On March 6th we were given a Termination of Lease letter and 60 Days to vacate the dock and office.  The deadline is May 6th, 2026.

We have a full schedule of events, trainings cruises, classes and vessel restoration (replacing deck especially) planned for the year which are all now in jeopardy.

The Bill of Rights, with a mission of sail training and maritime history preservation, has been instrumental in thousands lives from USN Sea Cadets, Scouts, JNROTC cadets, youth groups  and sailors from around the world.

A tallship, maritime events and educational programs have been a vital part of Chula Vista’s waterfront since 1987.  The Tall Ship Society of Chula Vista and Chula Vista Yacht Club were formed in 1988 providing maritime programs and events throughout the year and wellcoming the  schooner Californian when she came south to her home port.

The Californian was sold in 2003, but 2013 SBFSA and the Bill Of Rights stepped up for the community.  For the past thirteen years we have been a central part of the Chula Vista waterfron.

We are asking the Safe Harbor Marina’s work with us so we can continue to be an accessible, contributing member of our local community and to the tall ship community as a whole, as well as finish our major projects.
